I don't know how it is on the G3s, but I know that on my
old Power Mac 6400, not all PC monitors would work,
even with the proper adapter. We originally bought it at
Sears, along with a 15" NEC monitor and adapter.
When that monitor died, I tried buying a cheap 17" PC
monitor at an office store, and it wouldn't work, not even
at a very basic resolution like 640X480. it worked fine
on my PC at that resolution, and many higher ones. I
returned it and bought a slightly more expensive 17" PC
monitor (a Viewsonic, I think) and it worked fine on the
mac with the same adapter.

I think that some PC monitors are able to "sync" to Mac
monitor frequencies and some are not.
