It's sooo slow compared to previous OS's. You had to hear the > shouting and yelling to believe me. Didn't anyone yell and scream when OS9 crashed constantly? I know I did when I was in pre-press. Instead of yelling and shouting, perhaps you should have used that time to upgrade your machines so that they have enough resources to run OSX. Or you could have waited until a technology refresh was warranted and bought machines that could run it effectively. There's only one reason why the things you described happen, you must have put OSX on older machines that couldn't handle it. I have Panther on my machines and *work* on them all the time. It's very fast, but that may be because I upgraded my 450 G4 to 800, and my ram to a gig, and put in a 32 meg Radeon card for each monitor. You are blaming OSX for your decision to upgrade your OS before you upgraded your machines. Don't put others off of a fast and productive OS because of your mistake. You shouldn't have upgraded production boxes without sufficient testing. I run Jaguar on my wife's Beige, but I wouldn't put it in production. > > Ok I like OS X because it's more up-to-date by today's standard and > easier to integrate in a Windows environment f.e. On a home network maybe, with two machines or so, maybe. And it will still crash. Sounds like more "OS9 Forever!" whining to me. It's over man. Windows won the business desktop, OS9 is done, and by the way, the Amiga was cancelled too. Sorry. And DOS would be wicked fast on a P4 or Xeon, but who cares? > > A collegue of mine has a small home business aswell and since he agrees > that > OS 9 is much faster to do work he's thinking of getting the last G4 > which can dualboot OS 9 and OS X, just so he can use OS 9. What does having a small business have to do with it I wonder? Would OSX be faster in a large business? He must have the same problem you do, that being slower machines not ready for the new OS. > > Too bad that more and more magazines are starting to use Indesign which > only runs at OS X so that we're forced to use OS X. I resent that implication. I do every bit of my work on my properly upgraded G4, or my stock G3 iBook, and never have an issues. And the only time it ever goes down is to upgrade my hardware, or restart after software installation. My uptime is measured in months or years otherwise. And it has literally been years since I have had a crash on the aforementioned G4. I ran a pre-press room, and have worked in many others. I have done web design for a few years now, and I know what *work* and *fast* are. > > /end of rambling. I am dubious of that claim. OS9 fans have not stopped whining since OSX was introduced. Ironically, these were some of the same people whining for apple to develop a modern OS that wasn't spaghetti code and didn't crash all the time. Panther works great for me, but when I'm on my wife's Beige and I see a beachball, I don't blame Apple. I know I'm running it on an old box, so I wait the few seconds it takes and move on. -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
