OK... MIO menu... (there's no IO menu) the only "option" is CFG
NETWORK=NO*

That's useful...

file.

I downloaded it from the HP site and installed it. Desktop printer
Utility can find it.

Um... I was under the impression that the 4MP was the same as 4M Plus
(it uses the same driver). That URL shows me wrong... that's not what
I have, mine's a Plus. And it definitely has no power switch... good
work, HP.

The 4M Plus is I guess the original version of the machine also sold
as LaserWriter Pro 630. The case is different and it has an LED
readout, but otherwise it's basically the same (chassis, print
engine, toner cartridge, paper drawer are the same).

I have been reading this for a few days now so I thought I would chime
in and try to help. I have a LJ 5 (very similar) here at the office and
I may have a 4 in my basement at home, so I will try to setup one of
them tonight. Before then I have a few suggestions, that might help.

First of all take the printer offline. Then go the TEST Menu and take
print the SELF TEST page. This should contain all the printer
configuration including the JetDirect card setup. You will need to make
sure that Ethertalk is enabled on the card. If it isn't, you will have
to enable it through the MIO Menu. I would tell you how to, but I can't
find a copy of the JetDirect manual or the Users manual of the 4 series.
I should know more when I can look at mine.

Also from what you said earlier I got the impression that you have the
printer plugged directly into the computer. If this is the case you
should probably go out and get an Ethernet switch (10/100) and connect
both your computers and the printer together. You can get a 5 port for
less than $30.

I am also going to email you directly with a copy of the Service Manual
for the printer.
