Unlikely to be the calibration as all it does is sets the black and
white point and most flatbed scanners do that every pass. The problem is
possibly colour profiling related - to profile the scanner an IT8 target is
required (there are separate targets for reflection and transmission for
each make of photo paper or film) but the manufacturer should supply these
profiles with the scanner. Hardware/software for profiling is quite
expensive as a spectrophotometer is required to read the colour samples into
the software.
Your monitor too should be profiled - most modern monitors are profiled
before they get to the shop and copies of the profiles should be on the
manufacturer's site. The printer too should be profiled etc etc.
Apple's Colorsync utility and other CMM software brings all these
various profiles together - you can stipulate which profile to use for your
scanner, camera, monitor and printer etc
If you're using Pshop you can also set up your working space to use a
monitor profile - commonly srgb as the monitor has only a small colour space
compared to others like LAB - and the image/mode menu will allow you to
assign a profile for an output device like a printer to an image on screen
so you can roughly see how the image will print. Is the colour problem with
the monitor display or the printer?
