Thank you Mary, but when I try to boot from the OS-X install CD, one of two
things happens: it either hangs frozen after the Apple symbol shows up and
little gear under it spins for a minute, or else it pops to a green screen
that says "you must restart your computer" in about five different
languages. Restarting just causes the same thing to happen all over again.

So, it appears that booting from the install CD is out.

Man, if this wasn't a dual-boot machine, so that I could drop back to OS-9,
where I am now, this computer would be dead meat.

Who around here was saying that OS-X doesn't break? This G4 733 DA ran X
just fine for 7 months, and all of a sudden, today, the OS explodes,
without warning. And there doesn't seem to be any way to get it back,
either. Nothing is working.

I appreciate the attempts to help, though. Anybody else got any ideas?

Tom
