Caveat, I'm not all that conversant with IRC and it's protocols, so I could be way off base.
This error (*** Couldn't resolve your hostname; using your IP address instead
) points to TCP/IP issues. If you haven't changed ISP's then double check your networking settings, but this really sounds like IP address isn't responding properly to a reverse lookup, which I'll wager many legit IRC servers are blocking to keep spoofed clients off the servers.
Every host on the internet should (theoretically, at least) have an ip name 'mycomputer.myisp.com' and an ip address '123.123.123.123'.
They should resolve properly to each other in the DNS lookups: ie: if a computer looks up 'mycomputer.myisp.com' it should get the answer '123.123.123.123' and if it looks up the address '123.123.123.123' it should get 'mycomputer.myisp.com' in return.
This second check seems to be where yours is failing.
Unfortunately, none of this should be controlled by what's on YOUR computer, so it's an ISP issue.
