<In the future, consider partitioning your HD out. You can maintain a
blank partition for several purposes- including the purpose of using
it to install newer system software. This may help if you try to go
to OS X, but at this point on your powermac you are already at the
pinnacle of OS 9. In other words, there is no farther for you to go
unless you make the jump to OS X.>

Yeah, I know 9.2.2 is as high as I can go with OS 9. As to
partitioning...other than by totally reformatting my hard drive, is there
a way? Just curious.

<On your powerbook, however, it's a different story. Still,
everything I've read says that 8.6 is superior to 8.5 in all
respects. i know that when I upgraded from 8.5 to 8.6 on my 1400 it
went off without a hitch, no problems at all. I dunno if it has the
newer version of quicktime or not, but I assume not since there is
not mention of quicktime changes in the 8.6 update. Might as well DL
the quicktime update as well, as you are doing. Just the same,
though, once you update, look in your control panels, open the
quicktime control panel and you should see the quicktime version you
are currently running in there.>

Ummmm, I posted to the Powerbooks list about THIS one, rather than the
G-list. Yes, I'm still considering the 8.5 to 8.6 upgrade there and I
gotta say that the smashing success of my 9.2.2 upgrade on the G3 is
something of a motivation. However, I felt it would be smarter to address
the concerns I still have to the Powerbooks list since my Powerbook is
hardly a G4 iBook hahaha. Yes I did download the Quicktime 4.1.2 update
too -- as was the case with 8.6, it was free. Can't beat that price with
a stick. ;-) But, no more of that issue in here.

<As for my hardware, keep in mind that my iMacs and powermac date back
to as far as early 1999, so it's not that so different as you might
think.>

Yeah, but your processors are still faster. 400 MHz is faster than 266,
right? :-)
