Do ATA cables have a 'direction' i.e. Can they be fitted either way round?
Andy

All ata and scsi cables I have seen have a red line at one side denoting
the connection to pin one of the device...other than that?

Pete

I forgot to ask what happens if they are connected the wrong way round?

Of the many I have hooked up wrong it has never done any damage. On a PC, usually the red activity LED will stay on constantly instead of just when the drive is being accessed. I believe most Mac cables have a tab on the cable end which prevents the cable from being plugged in wrong. YMMV

Just a message from Doug...
