Drat. I found three backlit keyboards (all PC, unfortunately. Check with
the maker for compatibility), but overlooked the power button requirement.
I'm afraid I can't "do mail" and browse at the same time right now, (don't
ask...) so I can't go back and check these suggestions due to time
constraints. Sorry about that. [wrings hands]

Anyway:

(not a *true* backlit keyboard, but the cheapest and most common of the lot.
It *might* do what you need it to.)

(This is a true back-lit keuboard, with an LED for each key. Check out the
backplate on it, too...solid! Oh, and:

...making this one my personal fave. The layout may take a bit of getting
used to, though.)

Finally, this one is the most Mac-like in layout:

As I said, these are all PC 'boards. I'm not aware of any Mac equivalents,
but maybe someone else is.

For a cheap-n-cheezy hack: have you looked around at small, clip-on reading
lights? It wouldn't be an ideal fix, but at least you could use your
existing hardware.

Are you in tech support? I'm intrigued about the low-light conditions.

Best,

James Fraser
