Lorraine,
Okay, that sounds great. I used to rent a modem from Comcast until I
realized how cheap they were to buy. Bought one for $14, used it for 3 years
until Comcast made it obsolete. It would no longer hold a signal because of
some upgrading they did to their system. So, I bought a Linksys modem for
about $20 after rebate (checked their list of compatible modems first).

The Linksys router can be a bear to set up. They make good stuff, but their
Mac support isn't good. You have to set up the router through a web browser.
The documentation gives plenty of instructions for PeeC, but zilch for Mac.
Mine ran flawlessly for about 5 years, then just suddenly died. I replaced
it with a Belkin, which was a breeze to set up. Been using that for about 10
months with no complaints. Good luck and kudos for being so helpful to one
who is bedridden.
Cheers,
John
