Hi John, Just another way to look at this issue:
On 8/9/05 5:41 PM, John Nowlen of [EMAIL PROTECTED] sent > I am seeing on eBay DVD decoder daughter cards that have been pulled from > B&W G-3 version 2 machines with ATI Rage 128, 16 Mb PCI slot video cards. > Can I mount one of these decoders on my machine, a 450 Mhz B&W with 768 Mb, > running OS 9.1? This machine is more than sufficient to run OS X, Jaguar or Panther (Tiger for that matter). In that OS, the DVD playback is OS-based, not hardware (decoder card) dependent; why not use your expenditure to invest in an appropriate drive and OS X? (The actual answer to your question is "yes", as long as the decoder card is ATI) > Where could I find the best internal DVD burner that would > work with this dated equipment? Scour the list/eBay for an Apple-based SuperDrive, or a dependable external FireWire (LaCie, for ex.) that would have Toast bundled with it - I am not completely sure, but I bet a DVD decoder card is not necessary for burning, just playback (and even then, we're talking pre-OS X days) Just my thoughts, Best regards, Dana > > John > -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
