Thank you to everyone for all your advice. I took to my parents' house some
of the memory that failed memory testing on my machine and tested it on
their PC using memtest86 (Thanks Piers!). Two of the modules that failed
right away on my machine ran overnight without failure on their machine. So
it looks like it really has been incompatibility all along.

Richard ramsowr recommended RAM Direct, and Kathi Anderson recommended
Crucial. I appreciate both recommendations, but it isn't that the OWC memory
quality is poor (AFAIK, it isn't) but that I had the wrong type of RAM.

I plugged in my info on both the RAM Direct and the Crucial sites and they
both came up with the same type of module that OWC sent me--the kind my
machine can't use. OWC sent me the wrong kind initially, but at least their
item description included a footnote that some B&W G3s can't use the usual
type and tells which type will work for them and makes exchanging the memory
fairly easy.

I got "256MB PC100 CL2 168 pin SDRam for Apple PowerMac G3 Beige, G3 Blue &
White, G4 'Yikes' PCI models; AMD based PCs(check logic board requirements).
LifeTime Warranty! (OWC100SD256324)"

I think the item you have (with the 16x8 rather than 32x4 structure) is the
one I need.

Thanks again,
Joy
