Heh, heh -- Nope, not at all; that was the point I was trying to make.
ADC (Apple Developer Connection) seeds several copies of Apple software
of their choice to ADC Premier members each year when they renew. Check
it out:

They can do whatever they like with them. Apple _wants_ developers with
ADC memberships to be able to explore their software, especially the
OS. My friend simply seeded it to me, since I'm a regular member. I
didn't have to do anything, it was waiting for me the next time I
logged in.
He could have kept the seed ( I think he still has a few left this
year), and gotten some other software for himself, so it was very
gracious of him to lay it on me, but also 100% legal.
The drive you want can be had in a known functional version for $50-
$70. shop OWC, Smalldog, other online vendors.
