Thanks.

I have installed Mozilla, but there is no application that I can find... just a folder (under System: Documents) with such items as cache, chrome, liprefs.js, Netscape history, mail, news etc. Sherlock can only find this folder, an OSX installer and 3 preferences. It actually seems to be a Netscape setup... and Netscape is awful!! So where does Mozilla itself go to when instalkled in OS9.2? Or is it a parasitic item which utilizes Netscrape? Every item I click on opens Netscape. From what I can see, Mozilla ppears just to be Netscape!

Mozilla does not work in 9, only X. For the closest thing to Mozilla for 9, you would need to use the Wamcom rewrite of mozilla available at Wamcom.org

I think you're confused. Mozilla does work fine under OS 9. I'm running the Wamcom build on all my OS 9 only machines. It's Firefox which is OS X only. The Mozilla orginization stopped updating Mozilla for OS 9 a long time ago, but there are older versions which run as-is under 9. However, the Wamcom folks have continued updateing Mozilla for 9, and if you want the "latest" version that will run under OS 9, then yes you want the Wamcom version.

If you look at the description of what happens when they click on the mozilla folder, and mention that they are running 9.2, it leads me to believe that they have downloaded an OS X version of mozilla and are trying to run it on a 9.2 system. What they are describing is exactly what happens when you click on an OS X application when you are running 9.

Since, iirc, Mozilla uses the same creator codes as Netscape, when you double click on a Mozilla item, it opens the best OS 9 app it can find on the disk that has the same code, Netscape.

Mozilla stopped supporting OS 9 around 1.2 or 1.3, iirc. Wamcom is a build on top of the last OS 9 version of Mozilla and is the most up to date version that will run on 9. It also has more features and is more up to date than the last OS 9 build of Mozilla. The last update to Wamcom was in late 2003.

And yes, Mozilla is an open source program that was built off of the original Netscape browser, but taken far beyond.
