I apologize for using outdated terminology. I will refer to any re-installing of an OS whereby the former system folder is kept intact by re-naming it, as "Archive and install." This is what it is called in my "Mac OS X Panther v10.3 Installation and Setup Guide."
That being said, I thought some of you might find it interesting to know that when I just deleted my former system folder, the trash feature indicated to me that it was deleting 60,000 items. This number didn't appear but for a second or two, but it was very close to 60,000. And the total megs deleted were about 3 gigs. And, my machine and my apps-Illustrator, Photoshop, etc. run fine, and all the passwords are mine alone. Yup. Kathi snip I'm NOT that 'up to date' with OS9's installer. So I don't know for certain. But they may be assuming that you are starting from a 'clean/new' condition when you choose 'install'. That would be MY understanding. IF you have that situation, then the 'Install' and 'Clean Install' are one and the same. The difference in my mind, is that a 'Clean Install' will probably FORCE you (or do it for you) to 'delete everything'/reformat before it does the install. Chuck D.
