Actually, if it works, it works just fine, runs better than Jag, in
fact, it's just there are some beiges that were Never Meant For
Panther. Mine was one.

I know someone who could never get even 10.2 installed on his, even
after swapping out *every* component. (he had an Apple tech as a
friend who took an interest, then an obsessive interest in
getting...OSX...to...run...on...that...damn...Beige!)

I think the beige G3 line is turning out to be one of the more
idiosyncratic lines Apple made.

Tell me about it. Just last night I was trying to install the same
*Jaguar* that runs so well on a 12 MB Maxtor, on my beige G3 MT, onto a 20
MB Western Digital (from the installer CDs, not copying!). (This is from a
2002 iMac disk, but it worked with the Maxtor...I zeroed out the WD
beforehand, BTW, & partioned it correctly for a beige, same as the
Maxtor.)

Install goes well, but then when it tries to boot from the WD, Open
Firmware comes up & keeps telling me "Can't open...Can't open..." etc. for
a while, then reboots -- dark screen for a while, then the same thing.

Resetting the PRAM (10 times) & the NVRAM does nothing to help, except now
it will boot into 9 (on a different drive). Holding down the opt. or X
keys does the same thing.

Yes, I know about the WD having to be jumpered for nothing when it's on
its own solitary bus. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance,
