I just had some experience with this today. I have a LaCie external
Drive that has a USB 2.0 connection as well as a Firewire 400 port.
I had been using it with my wife (gasp) PC, so it was set up with the
USB connection. I was preparing to copy some files for a computer
that I'm expecting to be delivered today (tomorrow) and when I went
to reboot from it (after installing Tiger) it wouldn't. I went and
got a firewire cable and connected it up that way and of course it
booted.
So, I guess, the answer is no....you can't at present boot from an
external drive using USB 2 but you can with Firewire.
