This isn't at all unusual for real-life shootings even for well trained LEOs.

The street ain't the range, no matter how well you train: it's dark, scary, chaotic and you're brathing hard and pumped with adrenalin.

Also cops fire their guns in the line MAYBE a few times in their *careers*, unlike Hollywood where they do it every week.

There's a documented case of a gunfight between a cop and a perp, both armed with autos with full clips that ended with both out of ammo and unscathed.

The gun battle took place *inside* a police cruiser; perp in the back seat, cop in the front.
