I haven't been following this thread so forgive me if this has been suggested.

Have you checked your memory? With a fast zif in there, some of your memory
might not be up to snuff. Either defective or not fast enough. In the B&W I
think you need pc100 memory, at least.

Also, in an older machine, sometimes connections go bad. Before trying anything
else, you should pull out anything that can come out and put it back wiggling it
a bit to make sure good contact is being made. Everything includes all memory,
both ends of connectors to drives, cd drives etc, roms (does the b&w have a
removable rom as does the Beige?) and especially the zif. Pci boards too.
Power connectors to the mother board...everything. This fix has worked more than
once for me.

If you don't have the right heat sink for the zif you are using, it would
probably help to get one. Or try hanging a fan on it to guarantee it keeps
cool. In 9 and 10.2x you can usually use software to measure the temps of the
cpu (this stopped working for me in 10.3 and 10.4.) There has been debate at
the right temperature range for these processors, but 120F always seemd right
for me.

One more thought...you are using a couple of scsi drives. Are you sure you are
terminating them correctly? Have you tried playing with their scsi IDs? Some
of this kind of thing might help since your symptoms sound like they could be
scsi related. New ide drives are very inexpensive and don't have the same setup
issues as scsi.

Kernal panic is an X thing. If you are seeing the problem in 9 as well, it is
almost certainly a hardware problem.

Hope this helps.
