I'm sure someone will post saying
Safari is the bomb, but I have looked at the prefs, and I can't get
as secure-seeming or as stable a browsing experience from it as
FireFox. YMMV. Maybe there's a 3rd part util to tighten it down
further.

Set up Firefox, no cache, no history, no cookies, etc and you'll see
less of those ads

I recommend FireFox as well. It's my default browser today. Good outfit, more sites available, less security problems.

I'm fairly well hidden, but it's virtually impossible to avoid privacy problems on the internet. I'd give that dream up for awhile. Security has been an issue since the dawn of the internet.

I live on an island with 5000 residents (many of whom are not on the internet), and there are 2 ISP's on island. Just my ISP alone filters out about 250,000 SPAM's/day island-wide, and I can still see about 25/day right here (but my own system filters out all but 5 or 6 of those).

IMO, M$ is one of the worst offenders outside criminal hackers (I think it's debatable whether or not M$ is breaking then law....I think they are), and I hate to think Apple is falling into the same sinful tract, but they might be.

It was shown a few years ago that M$ sends out packets all over the internet which can invade any machine running Windows and harvest and report lists of visited websites and the like back to M$ (and enough reasons to believe other companies do it too), which they say is a legitimate endeavor for gathering marketing demographics.

But I call it invasion of privacy.

If you truly want privacy, you're better off making those notes and transactions offline and in person. But if online, then keep several email mailboxes with different addresses in different places, and don't give those to anyone except those in whom you trust not to give them to anyone else, and don't make contact with any internet businesses with them.

All the best,
Ken N.
