Mac OS X 10.4.3 on a PowerMac G3 B&W, and am trying to get an
external firewire Sony DRX-530UL burner working.
WIthout Patchburn, I can read CDs and DVDs with no problem.
With Patchburn 4.0.0a4, the system seems to recognize that I can now
burn. But when I actually try to burn, I get this error message:
Communication to the disc drive failed. error 0x80020022
I also get the message:
Burning the disc failed because the disc drive is not accessible.
error 0x80020020
Is this something that can be fixed in Patchburn or ?
No replies here so far, but Kris wrote me privately:
Do you have the latest firmware in the DVD/RW? According to Sony
that would be version 2.1G available here:
http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/firmware.htm
I hadn't thought of that! Had 2.1c. The update isn't available for
Mac, so I got my housemate to do it on his PC. Now it's 2.1g.
Also emailed the author for suggestions, but have received no response.
Other than that, I'm not aware of problems with PatchBurn 4.0.0a4
and I've used it with several DVD and CD burners in 10.4.3.
Retried today. Got:
Finder: Burn started, Thu Dec 1 15:09:52 2005
Finder: Burning to DVD-R media with DAO strategy in SONY DVD RW
DRU-530A 2.1g via FireWire.
Finder: Requested burn speed was 2x, actual burn speed is 2x.
Finder: Burn underrun protection is supported, and enabled.
Finder: Burn failed, Thu Dec 1 15:10:07 2005
Finder: Burn sense: 5/24/00 Illegal Request, Invalid field in CDB
Finder: Burn error: 0x80020022 The device failed to respond properly,
unable to recover or retry.
Figured I could try to remove the profile and reinstall it. But
PatchBurn is dead. It says it's expired - to get the latest from the
web site. Did that, but it's the exact same archive and app I got
the other day. It has epired.
Is there any alternative to PatchBurn?
I suppose the cable or cable connection could be either bad or need
re-seating?
At this point I've tried two diff firewire cables and both firewire
ports on the Mac and the drive. I've also tried CD-R, DVD-R, DVD+R,
and DVD+RW media. Everything results in the same error. Even did
the repair permissions thing a few timees... :\
Anyone? Ideas?
- Dan.
