This is probably not related but I read an article a couple of
years ago
that said the glue used in CD labels spawns a fungus that will
actually eat
through the data layer of the CD. Turns out CD's aren't forever.
The article
suggested using magic markers or something else besides labels.
The National Institutes of Standards and Technology has a guide to
archiving electronic data:
