Where is the best deal on a Mac Mini? I am ready to buy my first one.

I'd say it depends a lot on your intended uses, etc. Configged properly, the 1.25 GHz model may be all the Mac you need -- and it should be easier to find a good deal on one than on a 1.42 GHz model.

For example, I recently got a first-gen 1.25 GHz mini from a friend for $380 (same price as refurbs at the Apple Store). Stock config unit with only 256 MB RAM, and I'm already hungry for more. You may be OK with just 256 if you don't do a lot of multi-tasking, but look for at least 512 if you keep a number of apps open and jump back and forth between them. I got lucky and got a 5400 RPM hard drive in mine; the earliest release had just 4200 RPM drives. AFAIK, all minis with production date of March or later have the 5400's.

You might want to check for bargains at Apple's site -- look for the Red Tag link toward the bottom of the Apple Store page. The refurb deals at the Apple Store online come and go quickly, so I'd advise you check daily for the next week or two to see if you can pick off a plum....
