This is the only part of the Intel transition that concerns me. I don't own a PC. I'm not interested in owning or running Windows. I have Virtual PC for the geek inside of me... to be able to run NeXTSTEP, Linux, and other x86 OSes. If the Intel switch causes developers to rethink their commitment to the Mac OS, we are in real trouble. I sure hope that concern is for naught.... for I will NOT run Windows for anything. Period. Microsoft = OK. (For example, Mac Office & RDC are great!) Windows = bad.

What would be nice is if Apple leverages their work on OS X and iTunes for Windows to make it so you can use XCode to make both Windows and OS X binaries...and makes it available for the same price as they do XCode now, which is to say, nothing.

Development tools on the PC are expensive. Visual Studio is expensive. (One of the problems of being a software company, like MS, is that you need to charge for your tools, too.)

This is pure speculation...I don't know how *hand crafted* the Windows versions of QT and IT are but this could pull a lot of developers to the Mac side.

It's a lot easier to ship a Mac version if the only "rewriting" you need to do is to click a checkbox at compile time. gcc already compiles to multiple platforms, it would only mean some translations libraries on Apple's part, libraries they might already have, as a result of porting QT and IT.

Real Basic does this now, and a lot of folks have found this to be a painless way into shipping multiplatform content.
