Thanks in advance.> For once, cost wasn't a problem for me on this particular upgrade. Going to 9.2.2 was, shockingly, within my budget. I was able to find a 9.1 install CD-ROM for $30-something, which is a good deal less than it would cost to buy OS X -- or even 8.6 at the time I was looking for THAT (spring 2004, when the only two 8.6 CDs I could find were $110 and $169 respectively). After you install 9.1, you can use Apple's FREE updates: from 9.1, you need to go to 9.2.1 first, then 9.2.2. I had moved up from my 7200/120 running 8.1 to 9.1 via having purchased a G3 Beige (off the Swap List) with 9.1 already on it, because I needed to be able to run Toast to burn backup CDs. Thing was, while this Beige had 9.1 on it, it didn't come with a 9.1 CD in the purchase, which is why I ended up buying the 9.1 CD-ROM (I couldn't put the OS on another hard drive merely by copying it from the one it was on to the other). I found that 9.1 let me run my Toast just fine, but was otherwise "just okay." (Of course, I could be just saying this now because I fell totally in love with 9.2.2, even though I could do absolutely everything I had to do on 9.1.) I updated to 9.2.2 for two reasons: (a) All of the folks on this list who were still using OS 9 at all were so highly recommending 9.2.2 over 9.1, and (b) to get the performance boost they said I'd get, FREE, well, couldn't say no to THAT now, could I? ;-) Well, those people were absolutely right. 9.2.2 was totally wonderful and made my Mac experience everything I feel it should be. It made my Beige a lot faster and snappier than 9.1 ever did. ~Yersinia. ________ "Quantum mechanics: The dreams stuff is made of." -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
