I gather they ought to be firewire, but how is it with Zones on those? My Mac (any Mac) will accept Zone-switch 5 times (the first being the first time you stick a DVD in it), thus making it only four before you’re locked into the final Zone. I tried VLC player, but that didn’t work. Might be because it says "Copy Protected" on it. Ripping it didn’t work either, still not playable by VLC (and what that cannot play, is not worth mentioning [Windows Media...]). Thus: An external unit ought to (in theory) be Zone Free? And/or at least able to play DVDs in a different Zone than the Mac, so that the Mac’s Zone-counter doesn’t count? (I did find a Zone counter resetter, but that was for OS9 bootable Macs. Where are the equally useful apps for X? )
And I do have a G-series Mac, BTW.
;o)
