Depends on what you mean by "dies".
Everything stops, the fan stops, the lighted power button goes dark.
I forgot to mention that, if I push the power button again after the
premature shut down, absolutely nothing happens.
Some hours later, I can push the power switch, and it'll chime,
begin to start up and then shut down.
hum. Clark is probably on target -- power supply gakking. But a
failing PRAM battery might maybe also do this. I'm thinking it's
cheaper to swap out that battery as a first try... What the heck...
