Flyback transformers generally are cheap, and with care, relatively easy repairs. (You're dealing with CRTs, very high voltages) Google "flyback transformer repair iMac"...this was the third hit: <http:// www.macopz.com/columns/imacrepair/>

Claims it's a $50-$100 repair for a DIY...which at this point, come to think of it, may not be cost effective, as another fix in this article , getting an iMac with a dead MB and good CRT and transplanting the good parts from your system, may be even cheaper.
