Greetings!!
Another member at a local mac support list suggested something like
that happened to her iMac, more or less the same kind of failure.
The cause ended up being some sort of failure in the USB peripherals
attached to the iMac, for some strange reason. Maybe this may sound out
of the question, or maybe you have already tried, but nevermind... try
unplugging any usb device and powering up the unit without them... just
a guess...
