I got it. Today.
A raving and cute Apple Powermac G4 Quicksilver 800. Would be known
later on as "Frankenmac" as it would be the core of a project involving
upgrading and stuff.
Out of the box: I got it the very-cheapo way, and the guy who gave it
to me claimed to know "nothing about macs".
He said the motherboard could be fried, but else, every other component
would be fine. It came with 256Mb Ram, a cute Seagate Barracuda 40Mb
HDD, the original video card (an ATI), an optical drive, and a (as tol
by the guy) G4 800 proc.
The thing is: I plug it in, push the power button, button goes bright,
PS, case“s fan cooler and CPU fan cooler spins, then when I get my
finger our of the power button, it goes dark again, fans spin down and
remain shut. Nothing on screen, no other noises heard.
Up to now, I have the doubt whether it may really be a fried MoBo, or
should it be some kind of failure in the power supply instead.
I noticed the power supply unit very similar of that of a Pentium IV
one... Maybe it is too much of an insult to compare both (chuckles!),
but... Does anyone has an idea if it is indeed the same kind of P/S ?
Any idea of what kind of failure would it be if not?
Thank you a lot, in advance!
