To be safer, you can just type 'sudo' before any command that gets a 
'permission denied' response. That will probably only be the 'rm' command.

Which is why I don't recommend it to anyone who isn't very familiar with the 
command line.

Probably the best and safest thing to do here is use the mv (move/rename) 
command instead. For example,

sudo  mv  com.apple.finder.plist  com.apple.finder.plist.old

will rename the problem file so that it won't be read by the Finder that's 
giving you trouble the next time that finder starts up. Instead, it will create 
a new preferences file. (Make sure you don't rename it to something that might 
be the name of a useful file, since you would kill the latter!)
