How can you tell if the L3 cache is recognized and active? If system

Yes.

Double check in Tech Tool. Or try Powerlogix CPU Director (free on their
website) which gives you some control over a bunch of cpu stuff for various
versions of the G4 processor. All should show the L3 cache is or isn't active.
CPU Director will let you shut it off if you'd like to try benchmarking.
There's also a cpu tool in Apple's CHUD developer's tools (on the Tiger
installation disk) that will turn caches on or off.

Len, I'd be interested in the results if you do such a benchmark. I'd like to
learn that I'm not missing much without the L3s.

Far as I can tell, the Digital Audio can't find the backside memory (2 megs each
processor) that form the L3 cache. I know of another guy with the same problem
with the Dual 800 from a Quicksilver in a DA. I was able to get it running in
os 9 and Panther using the Powerlogix or Sonnet cache tools, but not Tiger for
some very strange reason...probably a firmware issue.
