THE PROBLEM:

OS X does not see/mount any SCSI drives.

<<Glen,

I seem to recall a 2930 firmware update is required for OSX. Did you check
the Adaptec web site?
.jsp?sess=no&language=English+US&cat=%2FProduct%2FAPD-2930U&prodkey=APD-2930U>

My response:

Thanks Bob, I appreciate the link.

I Think that link installs a driver in the OS X System ->Library->Extensions
folder. I'm not in front of OS X now -- maybe it is System->Extensions but
unless I'm wrong (quite possible) it does not flash the firmware.

I did check the above mentioned folder and it contains the file
"Adaptec290x-2930.kext" I think that is all that is needed. And according to
the Apple
database Blue & White installed 1.1 Firmware is compatible with the 2930CU.

The odd thing is the 2930 worked perfectly with either 10.3.9 or 9.22
installed on the 9 GB Seagate SCSI drive when alone on the SCSI chain. Only
when I
added the IBM DFHS S2W did the problem begin. And as I stated; I rechecked SCSI
ID's and active termination jumper settings.

This is an old drive transplanted from a 6100. It has OS 8.6 installed and is
formatted as OS Standard (HFS). Perhaps HFS the format is the problem??

Still, the drive is bootable (once I reinstalled the 8.6 update) and when
booted as the startup drive it sees all the other installed drives and can
reboot
into OS X on the IDE bus but not to OS X on the SCSI bus.

I'm thinking my next move is to remove it. Go back to only the one Seagate 9
GB SCSI drive configuration and put this drive in an external enclosure. Then
attach it to the external channel of the 2930. If anyone has a better idea I
would really like to see it.

This is mostly a weekend project. It started as a November birthday present
for my wife. I started to rebuild this sucker in October and everything that
should take a half hour has take a day or more -- since October!!. Fortunately
my wife is very forgiving. Now she has all her 8.6 stuff in a faster computer
with a better monitor but we want to get to OS X !

Thanks --glen (obsessed to find an answer and in digest mode)

PS: Anyone else want a birthday present like this ;)
