Size: Nope. The ATA connector on laptop drives is smaller.

There -are- inexpensive ($10) adapters that will allow you to attach a
laptop drive to a standard (tower-type) ATA cable connection or
external-drive case. There are also external Firewire cases
specifically for the smaller laptop drives!

Thanks Martin. THAT's an answer I was looking for. Ever since going to newer 
iMacs and iBooks I haven't tinkered much with computer hardware/upgrades like 
in my powermac days and have fallen behind the times on hardware knowledge.Your 
email crossed my previous in the stream.
