Some observations:

Why does anyone keep the iCab validator on, unless you want it to check out your own pages? It's just going to frown at *everything* -- since web designers still feel they have to (& in most cases have to by reason of their employers'
insistence) work around Explorer gaps in web standards support.

I use the green/orange/purple face facility for checking my own creations, for checking others' too. I am not (perhaps surprisingly <grin>) the only one to create websites that actually conform to standards. So, it does not always frown. Plus there are levels of its displeasure, it is a great resource. And it is not true to blame IE workarounds for the all the frownings. It is perfectly possible to create pages that adhere to standards that display well in all browsers. The overwhelming majority of errors on the web have nothing to do with IE or consciousness of IE.

It is the most brilliant feature and one of the two reasons I fire iCab up (the other reason is the easy way to set your favorite text editor to show the source). Simple but amazingly useful as a quick check. I know Firefox has extensions for web development but iCab has the little face, that is the clever indicator.

Now and then, extraordinarily simple but clever things are thought up. iCab is on my pedastel on this one.
