Read Bruce and Len's replies carefully. They explain things that you need to do generally. Bottom line: There is NO truly safe or secure way to do ANY private or financial transaction over the Internet. Seriously. "Security" is a Risk Assessment - the effort you're willing to go to protect your "transaction" vs the effort some criminal is willing to expend to get it. If you go one inch farther than the criminal is willing to step - you're safe. YOU have to decide how careful you want to be. YOU have to take the risk, and somehow limit your exposure. *And* you have to hope / pray that the financial institution agrees with you and maintains at least your desired level of protection. Sometimes limiting your exposure can be the real key to "security". Just don't make your financial accounts available online. And if you must, +/- some pain, most transactions can be undone IF you keep an eye on things. If you don't offer a deep pocket to the criminal in the first place, then that pain is more handleable. My fav ways to limit exposure: 1) Don't use Windows. It's just not secure, ever. 2) Only use a single credit card with a low limit online. And make sure that card isn't paid automatically from any other account, in case its number is "stolen". 3) If you need to be able to accept payments, use a service like Paypal and *don't* connect it to your bank account. 4) Skip number 2. Use Paypal's debit mastercard instead. That makes your online fundage a closed loop with VERY limited exposure!
