The controlling items are, whether or not the 'Beige' installation has been stripped down to the bare minimum of what the 'Beige' needs, or not. A 'Garden variety' installation puts almost everything possibly useful onto the HD, and THAT installation will boot a G4. I've done it. In fact I still have an external SCSI HD that works quite well on either system (as long as SCSI is available on the G4). You need to not make positive statement of a general nature when in fact they are true only for specific conditions.
