Try the startup Disk > control panel btw ;) > No, that's what causes the start-up failure. If I set the OS to be booted, it will be like initially described -- no chime and no video. If I do this, I then have to zap the PRAM (Cmd-Opt-P-R), then I can get past this issue and select the OS using Open Firmware. So it actually is broken in a way, I just don't know which part.
