Even on PCs the 9600's were a poor card and regarded as a stop gap until the
better 9800's came out.
I have a DA with a flashed 9600 256mb card and it is OK but certainly no world
beater.
I'd say it performs only as good as my 9800 128mb card in my other DA.
The 9800 256mb cards and even better, the 9800XT's are a very good card and
well worth the extra money.
One thing though is that they do run hot and the video cards onboard fans are
prone to a high failure rate.
I replaced mine with an excellent Artic Cooler fan which runs just slightly
louder but keeps the card so much cooler.
