My MDD G4's also only shut down when I was not using them. But after a
while they began to occasionally refuse to start. Got a glowing light in
the start button when I pushed it but no start. This progressed to no

I went through guilt trips. I thought maybe I had not kept the G4's
clean enough and had overheated them. Ect. Then I found out the power
supply in the MDD G4's have issues and it wasn't my fault.
I don't know of any way to check to see if it is a failing power supply
but I certainly recommend that you back up your entire computer to an
external hard drive. And start watching for a good used power supply.
