I discovered the problem was Norton's Firewall. Comcast --- now
Xfinity--- had installed it for their cable users. I had enabled it

Most home routers include a perfectly good firewall. And even if that's disabled, NAT is a natural firewall (as long as you don't have Universal Plug'n'Play enabled).

Mac OS X comes with a perfectly good firewall.

Why would you install yet-another?

And as we have said, over and over, over the years, on these LEM lists... Symantec is BAD. Get it AWAY from your Mac !!!!!! That advice has not changed.
