Hello,

I get a spinning wheel and then the Software Update app just quits. I will look
into your other suggestions.

thanks,

First: Crashing how? A Kernel panic?, A spinning pinwheel of death? 'An Error
has occured'? Check the system log for clues to what is going on at the install
time.
Second: Have you tried booting in safe mode (hold down the shift key at
startup) and installing the upgrade that way?
Second-and-a-half: Install and run Applejack <http://applejack.sourceforge.net/>
Third: all else fails, this would be one of the times to do anArchive & Install
of the OS.

But I'll wager the system log will tell you what's happening at the time it
crashes.
