I think you're referring to AppleScript.
I mean, there are several tools for scripting /macro creation, but that's
the Apple one.

AFAIK AppleScript is still present in OSX, but there's also the Automator
program: you can find it into OSX's "Applications" folder.

Lastly, you can set up keyboard shortcuts for various features, thru System
Preferences / Keyboard / Keyboard Shortcuts.
