I also use headphones sometimes, a Stax Lambda Nova Signature set and
love it. Also great with movies, the M-Audio Rev card has a nice fake
surround setting - if I get it to work. The Mac drivers for that card
are total crap, the "upgraded" ones are even worse.

Are those the electrostatic "ear speakers" that look like something a WWII
pilot used to wear?

Serious money, you must really be into your music to buy them.
The best head phones i bought were my sennheiser HD 650 ovation II back
in 1992 for £130.
I sadly cannot find any headphones with velvet cushions like those beauties.
