Yes. Do you have "somewhere else" to copy the video files to, like a backup 
HD? 
Alternatively, if you have a (Firewire preferably) dock to connect the new 
drive externally, you could copy the files over before you install the 
500GB--it's somewhat safer.
Cloning works well with CCC.
