Memo to self, use noggin! I noticed that the folder where i extracted all the direct x files had vanished, so I did a search.
I found a very handy file (in windowszdirect X), called direct X set up. I! am! A fool! Well, at least for a bonus the game is now working. I'm extremely sorry to bother everyone! to everyone else who got the "Stfc has encountered a problem" message, try doing what I did, download direct X, extract the files somewhere, then go into windows\direct X and run the set up exe. Now if people will excuse me, I need to boldly go you know where! Beware the Grue! (though if I continue making bodges like that, i deserve to be it's lunch!).
