Hi Kim, Not to confuse the situation further, but a mud client is actually something called a telnet client. It uses a special web protocol called telnet which is used for operating computer software remotely such as a mud although a telnet operator can access and run other software too. However, mud clients are designed for gaming in mind and often have extra features over your basic telnet program such as scripting, the ability to add sound effects, ability to save connection info for various muds, and so on.
As to your question yes. If you type a command into the client your client sends that command over the telnet connection to the game server, and the game acts upon that command if there is an action to be taken. If you typed the word "north" into VIPMud, for example, VIPMud would send that command to the game server, the mud would act upon that command, and then send a message back to VIPMud that would be spoken and displayed on screen. Does that make sense? As for editing long descriptions and such that is where scripts come in handy. You could write a script that performs that action for you freeing you up to do other things. There are a lot of ways to automate the process, but they require more advanced skills with your client of choice, and we need some specifics here. Cheers!
