Hi Josh, Personally, I would choose Python. Any full blown programming language is better for a roll playing game than most interactive fiction languages which are designed for puzzle type play than any kind of deep sort of action oriented game with stats and skill levels. Python is simple and easy to learn and use, and combined with Pygame or Pyglet means you can have audio etc too.
