Talking about fun games, we generally have two guys who alternate GM'ing slightly different campaigns, when we then also switch between characters, and it's quite amusing to have the very serious, careful GM, who generally goes to the point of making 100% sure he's got 99% of all possibilities relating to routes, venues, etc. covered - think he might have been one of the effects on the greenness of our world's environment in terms of the amount of paper he would have needed per session if it wasn't for modern electronics - then switch over to playing the type of informal, ruffian/smooth-talking character that a few GM's would hate to have around, when he's on the other side...LOL!

To give you a taste, he's sort of a merchant/alchemist/seafarer, who's name is something along the lines of Maxaskatchen - not sure of spelling - and his primary weapons, on occasion are forms of expanded bolo - weights on the end of a chain, or a mace, but, his form of NPC side-kick is a lizard called Mojo...<smile>

In other words, aside from actual action, we might end up playing through a sort of confrontation scene with local skulky/bandit types, which end up in drinking games, where figures like constitution might affect required dice rolls, etc. etc., along with various talking/persuasion, and language skills.

But, yes, some of our overall campaigns/stories have literally taken a couple of years to work out, and work towards solutions to work against things like curses, figure out the underlying aspects of some of the NPC's we pick up along the way, whether their histories might either have something to do with overall story, or whether we might need/want them to help us sort out end-result, etc. etc., so while our sessions relate to sort of episodes - sometimes spanning multiple sessions, we do definitely also try to keep it fun/informal, at times, but, always following rules - my primary character was turned to stone sort of by accident/unexpectedly, which was a sort of damn! what now? effect, but then the other characters ended up erecting a form of memorial for him.

Stay well

Not having to do with mechanics? Sounds like quite the best way to go :D.

Ironically one of the most fun games I ever had was an instant 7th sea. I'd gone to visit a friend of mine for the day, so we had literally six hours and no more. This is a friend I know very well and consider as close as a sister, and her husband (who I know less well but who is a really good gm), ran the game.

because we had so little time the creation process basically took seconds. I played a noble cavalry officer, and my friend played a scummy thief, and we didn't bother too much with stuf like feats or much beyond basic skils (my character could ride and fight from the sadle while my friends' could pick locks and brawl).

It was however one of the best games I've ever had just because the two of us clicked very well, indeed my friend's husband said it felt like running a tv action/comedy just because of the entirely mad levels of bickering and general disfunction, especially sinse 7th sea is basically made to have huge amounts of fun in a hammy, semi historical setting.

All the best,

Dark.
