There's a difference between "testing for bugs" and "learning fun things". In the former case, you make yourself invincible so you can test weapons without having to restart the game. In the latter, you get to figure out just how high your health can go before it goes back around to the negatives, and the game goes crazy (bonus points if you get it on tape!).
